The design of the two new extensions to the school complex on Via Montessori in Godo, in the province of Ravenna, represented for the Mecozzi Verdini studio an important opportunity to engage with an already well-established school building system, yet one in need of both functional and compositional updating. The new volumes are conceived as architectural fragments harmoniously integrated into the garden, where the color red becomes a unifying element between the two buildings and contributes to enhancing their formal readability.

The intervention by the Mecozzi Verdini studio responds to the evolving needs of the local community: within the complex that houses both the “Fantini” primary school and the “Aquilone” nursery school, a multi-purpose dining hall and a “spring section” for the municipal daycare center take shape.

The new extensions are integrated into the site by following the alignments set by the existing buildings, both in plan and in height.
The designed buildings are structurally independent and also autonomous in terms of internal usability.

The design intent was to preserve the existing garden as much as possible, rich in a variety of tree species, enhancing it with new trees and ornamental shrubs.
The building and its garden merge into a single, integrated design, where the garden itself—with its plants, seasonal fragrances, and spring colors—becomes part of the very framework of the design concept.

The natural element thus becomes a true spatial and compositional component, fostering the development of a symbiotic relationship between students and nature, which in turn becomes a fundamental learning tool, also influencing teaching styles and approaches.
